Tena Tena Camp – introduction
Tena Tena in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park has become an African home-away-from-home for globetrotters worldwide. The words “Tena Tena” mean "temporary home" in the local language, and for many people this exclusive camp is their very own safari nirvana.

A journalist from The Times in London perhaps summed it up best when he wrote: “Tena Tena is altogether beyond superlatives and must be one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa. It is both remote and extremely civilized.”
Some guests return to Tena Tena so regularly, they are considered part of the family. What brings them back year after year to this remote wilderness area? Certainly, it is the amazing setting of the camp, perched on the banks of the Luangwa River under a grove of mahogany trees. And no doubt the fabulous game-watching opportunities provide an added thrill. However, guests are unanimous in their praise of one thing – the superb individual service and warm hospitality offered by the Robin Pope Safaris team.
Together, the Popes have made Tena Tena the best safari camp in Zambia. Some camps are itinerary-driven, but at Tena Tena the emphasis is on flexibility which is the Pope’s style. Daily activities include walks under the guidance of highly trained guides, and star-spangled night drives in 4x4 Land Cruisers. Guests who feel in need of total rest and relaxation do not need to venture far from the camp to spot game, as there are always sightings within the vicinity.
